What makes a password truly secure?

Password security is determined by two factors: length and entropy. Entropy is a mathematical measure of how unpredictable a password is — calculated as length × log2(charset size). A 20-character password using all four character types (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols) has a charset of ~90 characters and generates approximately 131 bits of entropy. That is computationally uncrackable with current technology — a brute force attack would take longer than the age of the universe.

Most password breaches don't happen through brute force — they happen through credential stuffing (using leaked passwords from one site on another) and phishing. The most important thing you can do is use a unique password for every account. A password manager makes this effortless.

This generator uses crypto.getRandomValues() — part of the Web Crypto API built into every modern browser. This is a cryptographically secure pseudorandom number generator (CSPRNG), producing true random values that cannot be predicted or reproduced. It is fundamentally different from Math.random(), which is NOT cryptographically secure and should never be used for passwords.
